The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Frustration Over Size Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to review their products and manually change the size when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
